Meet Our Contributor, Nikki Smith

Meet one of our contributors for Girl Meets Party, Nikki Smith. Nikki is a wife, a mama, a blogger and a working professional. Her trick to balancing life is to always incorporate things that bring her joy. For Nikki, joy isn’t only in the big adventures, but also in those little every day moments.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m turning 30 this January and I couldn’t be more excited! Spending time with my family is my most favorite thing, and we love packing up our two dogs and hitting the road to see where we end up. We love day trips, weekend trips, and planning for those dream trips when vacation time and budgets are more opportunistic. We absolutely love hosting, and are currently renovating our space to make it our dream home. We bought an older house that was built in 1920, so we’ll be making lots of updates while also trying to preserve some of the original charm.

We’re originally from Tennessee, and I grew up just outside of Nashville. While we love going back to visit, we are really enjoying this chapter of our lives in Chicago. (We moved here in June.) I love cooking and baking and providing tasty, healthy food for our family and friends. I also enjoy fashion and home decor, being outside, good books, music that makes you feel things, wine and whiskey, and having really good, meaningful conversations with people.

What’s your favorite thing to create?

My favorite thing to create is easy and affordable party decor/settings.

How do you get ideas for your projects?

I get ideas from things that are going on in my life (like our home renovation) or things that my followers recommend.

Have you always been crafty? If not, when did it start?

I haven’t always been crafty, but since getting married I’ve started delving into the crafting world quite a bit. This is because I wanted to create a home space that was warm and welcoming, ultimately allowing people to be themselves. It would be a safe space where people could kick back and stay as long as they pleased. I believe “ambiance setting” is so important in this area, so I made it my mission to do so.  At the time I picked up crafting, my husband was getting his MBA and I was supporting the household financially. It made budget planning critical as I sought to make our space as homey as possible through all the seasons.

Tell us a bit about your family! We want to know about you!!

My husband and I have been married for 2.5 years. We met on a ski trip because our roommates at the time were dating, and the rest is history! We dated for 9 months before getting married and got (unexpectedly) pregnant within the first year of our marriage, but I truly wouldn’t change a thing about our story. He is totally my person. Our son is Tristan River, but we just call him River. He’s 15 months old and the most fearless, curious little warrior. We also have two dogs – a pitbull and a doberman. This little family gives me purpose in a way that I never could have imagined before. Though our life is far from perfect and may be challenging at times, it’s always filled with love.

What will you be writing about for Girl Meets Party?

I will be writing about my 30th Birthday coming up in Seaside, FL and our home renovations!

What are you most excited for in the new year?

I’m excited to land on the other end of our renovations and finally live in our dream home.

Meet Jen

I’ve always had a love affair with creation. Since I was a child, I handmade my gifts or combined toys to design something new. Fast forward twenty years, and I’m still making my gifts every holiday and designing new ways to do things.
