I had the pleasure of planning and co-hosting Joanna’s 1st birthday in Hinsdale to the theme of ‘Ballet & Bubbles,’ which was featured on page 36 in Chicago Parent Magazine.
With the backdrop of their stunning home, I brought the theme to life through all food, decor and, of course, the birthday girl’s adorable outfit. Having a great co-host (aka client) always makes it so much more fun! I absolutely loved working with Joanna’s mom, Kat, to finalize all the details. Their precious family was so fun to watch on the big day. Enjoy the details on this ballet & bubbles first birthday party below!
Setting the theme
I initially explored three themes. Joanna loves bath time so I designed a ‘Mermaid Under the Sea’ theme. Her mom and I also looked at a whimsical theme with unicorns (which was ADORABLE!), but ultimately we loved the elegant feel with girly touches of rose gold, pink and white. The above mood board served as our inspiration for the big day. In particular, I loved the image of Sophia’s birthday, which was the main inspiration behind the party. In fact, you can purchase the exact balloon wall on Etsy. My specialty is finding inspiration and then bringing it to life in a unique way so no party is ever the same.
Designing the First Birthday
Lush flowers and a full sweets table would be key for a stunning event. Dilly Lily designed the bouquets based off of the ballet and bubbles first birthday mood board. I worked with Emily from Bon Vivant Cakes for the adult cake. It’s incredible how Emily is able to take one piece of inspiration and design a masterpiece out of buttercream, flowers and other hidden surprises. When she asked if she could get creative, I knew I’d be obsessed with the final product. For the adorable rosette cake and ballerina cookies, I partnered with Sweetness by Erin. Erin’s one of my favorite cookie decorators on the planet.
Favorite Ballet and Bubbles First Birthday details
While it’s hard to pick just one, I was head over heels for the cake designed by Bon Vivant Cakes and Joanna’s adorable outfit. After searching for so many outfits on etsy, I was able to find Joanna’s 1st birthday outfit on Amazon.
So easy! I ordered a few sizes for Joanna (affectionally known as Jojo to her family) so the birthday girl could look absolutely perfect on her big day. I think the adult’s favorite detail was the mini champagne favor, which I designed with Studio B labels from etsy.
If you decide to create your own mini champagne labels, use our guide for soaking them off because it makes a huge difference!
I couldn’t have been more thrilled to work with this beautiful family in Hinsdale! It’s so fun to host a party with people that you already want to hang out with, and Jojo is too cute for words!
